Baby Swimming Classes in Dallas - Walnut Hill
Parents love their little ones and want to give them the best start in life.
And as such, you likely spend a great deal of time and energy focusing on your baby’s health, safety, development, and education – even before beginning school. Did you know that baby swimming classes can help you cover all of these areas? Learn how in this quick guide.
Providing Children With a Bright Start Through Baby Swimming Classes
Anyone who has spent time in a pool knows it’s a pretty amazing workout. It’s great cardio in addition to being beneficial in the area of muscle development. It’s a full-body exercise, which can be incredible for the health of little bodies. As a bonus, that full-body exercise can help your baby sleep better, which is also beneficial for his or her health.
What about brain development and education? Multiple studies by Griffith University, the NIH, and other sources state that swimming is excellent for brain development and cognitive function. In fact, children who learned to swim early were reported to be ahead of the curve in various cognitive skills, including math and reading.
And let’s not forget the safety aspect. If your little one falls into water without knowing how to swim, the results can be catastrophic. In fact, such situations are a leading cause of death among children.
However, by beginning swimming lessons early, the movements and breathing techniques become ingrained. Should a fall occur, your baby will more naturally know how to manage the situation until you can reach him or her.
At What Age Should Babies Learn to Swim?
The answer to this question is a very simple one: as early as possible. Above, we mentioned that drowning is a leading cause of death in children. To be more specific, it is the leading cause of death for children ages one to four. Therefore, starting them in classes before their first birthday can significantly reduce that risk.
Don’t worry, though, if your child is already older. There is never a bad time to learn how to swim. And as drowning is the second leading cause of death from ages five to 14, you still have the power to protect your child.
Learning to Swim the Emler Way
Haim Ginott once said, “Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.” This is true in many respects – including learning to swim.
As well-meaning as people are, sometimes the methods through which they introduce children to swimming have a lasting negative impact. And even if your child decides that swimming isn’t their favorite activity someday, it’s still imperative that they not fear the water – that they can save themselves in the midst of a scary water situation.
At Emler Swim School, we know that the first experience in the water can stick with your child – so we want to make it a great one. Starting as early as two months old, your child can enjoy our playful, stress-free Walnut Hill Bathtime Babies program. It is heavily parent-involved, allowing your baby to get comfortable in the water.
From six months old up to age three, our Walnut Hill Waterbabies program slowly moves your baby into more independent actions. They learn breath control, how to kick independently, and more – all with you by their side. Your love and encouragement work hand in hand with our loving and playful atmosphere to build confidence and foster safety.
From ages three and up, your little fish will progress through various levels at their own pace until they master independent swimming.
Our Walnut Hill team is here to encourage smiles, confidence, and water safety in your little ones. Call 855-232-2006 to schedule a free 30-minute orientation or fill out the contact form to have our team reach out to you.

Super Waterbabies
Parent joins baby in the water for the first 3 weeks
The Supers class is for two years of age, toddlers on land maybe, but able to move five feet through the water with ease. During this series of classes, parents will eventually get out of the water and cheer from the sidelines as the children learn more skills.
This class extends the range to seven feet of swimming and teaches: a sitting jump entry, then a turn in the water and a swim back to the wall. It’s going to be easy to encourage from the edge of the pool as these little swimmers have fun.
