6 months – 35 months
The Waterbabies classes only seem like fun and games. But this is where natural swimming for pure joy begins, in a wonderful environment with parental love and warm smiles all round.
Baby Swimming Classes in Firewheel
Did you know that your baby can start swimming lessons before they even begin to walk? And that doing so can actually support their future endeavors – even those first steps?
At Emler Swim School, we help foster a love of water in little ones as early as two months old. How can we manage this and what benefits does it offer? We’re happy to answer these questions and more below.
Advantages of Baby Swim Lessons
It seems logical to begin swim lessons after your child has learned to walk. As the saying goes, you have to learn to crawl before you can walk. This depicts a natural progression that makes a great deal of sense.
The truth is, though, that babies don’t need to walk before swimming. In fact, swimming can actually help with various forms of development – including the ability to walk.
Swimming is a full-body activity that builds muscle and helps babies explore their full range of motion. Both of these benefits can positively impact the ability to walk.
Additionally, it enhances cognitive development, self-esteem, balance, and coordination. All of these are essential for successfully learning to walk, as well as having fewer falls, bumps, and bruises along the way.
All of these benefits also play an integral role throughout all other aspects of a child’s life, including school, sports, careers, relationships, and more. Additionally, as swimming can be such a fun family activity, early swim lessons can pave the way for a lifetime of bonding.
Fostering a Love of Swimming
Sadly, there are many children – and adults – that avoid water and all the benefits it provides. In some cases, this is due to fear, as they are simply not strong swimmers or haven’t been taught at all.
In other cases, though, it’s due to a bad experience in the water – often at a young age. Sometimes, that experience is a true accident, like falling into the water and almost fatally drowning. Other times, a well-meaning adult used a “sink or swim” approach while trying to teach the child to swim.
Our team at Emler Swim School works to ensure that none of these negative events ever occur. We believe that introducing babies to water early, in a positive way, and with lots of love and encouragement, is the best method for fostering a lifetime of water play.
To accomplish this, we build our classes around a few important aspects.
- Fun: Our structured classes don’t look so structured to the little ones. We use fun, games, songs, and toys during lessons to induce positive feelings and reduce anxiety.
- Stress-free environment: In addition to the fun, we ensure your baby learns without competition or discomfort. Each child learns at their own pace, and we celebrate all the way.
- Hugs and love: We believe that positive reinforcement is always better than fear-inducing methods. Parents are involved every step of the way, giving love and building up their children.
- Safety: We teach and encourage safety throughout your child’s journey. Our goal is to not only foster love of the water but also a sense of safety and wellbeing.

Super Waterbabies
Parent joins baby in the water for the first 3 weeks
The Supers class is for two years of age, toddlers on land maybe, but able to move five feet through the water with ease. During this series of classes, parents will eventually get out of the water and cheer from the sidelines as the children learn more skills.
This class extends the range to seven feet of swimming and teaches: a sitting jump entry, then a turn in the water and a swim back to the wall. It’s going to be easy to encourage from the edge of the pool as these little swimmers have fun.
