This program takes 3-year-olds in small groups (no more than 4 per instructor) and teaches them to be submerged under water, how to control their breath, and how to kick forward through the water. Classes are engaging, using imaginative daily themes.
Toddler Swimming Classes in Kansas City - Westwood
In the Westwood Aquatots program, your child's natural curiosity is fueled with creative and playful themes aimed at teaching three-year-olds the essentials of breath control, submersion, and destination kicking.
Each class is carefully curated to ensure personal attention, maintaining a ratio of one teacher to four students. Whether your three-year-old is a newcomer to the water or has previous experience, this program has something to offer. Emler is equipped to help a non-swimmer become a confident water explorer, or to improve your child’s existing skills to match the Aquatots level of competence.
Every teaching group is purposefully kept small, with a maximum of four students per instructor. This creates an optimal learning environment where children of the same age learn to safely submerge and progress through the water with proper kicking.
The Emler Method
At Emler in Westwood, we recognize the innate desire of children to explore, learn, and have fun. Our classes are designed to combine these important developmental needs in innovative ways. Our instruction method combines positivity and fun, using games and creative themes to foster learning. We cultivate an environment that is non-competitive, where every child’s achievement is acknowledged and celebrated.
Our certified, specialized instructors progressively reveal the fun of swimming for your child. The curriculum becomes increasingly engaging as children learn to hold their breath, roll over in the water, submerge underwater, and eventually gain the ability to move through the water independently.
Emler classes are characterized by a lively and playful atmosphere where children naturally acquire new skills. The bond between a teacher and a student is built on mutual trust and unwavering support.
With an award-winning curriculum and nearly half a century’s worth of experience in teaching kids to swim, Emler makes a simple promise: Your child will learn to swim and become proficient in the water.
For Parents
At Emler, we encourage parents to be a part of every class, whether they prefer to watch from our comfortable observation room or cheer on their child from the pool deck. Our guide on “Your Child’s First Swim Lesson” offers useful tips on making this new experience smooth and enjoyable. Our Elmer Facilities are scrupulously designed and maintained for the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and comfort for both our little swimmers and their parents.
Choosing the Appropriate Class for Your Toddler
Emler believes in placing young learners in an environment that aligns with their swim abilities, which helps build confidence and promotes an environment of positive reinforcement.
That’s why we have progressive levels in each of our age-specific programs and offer free evaluations to determine the most suitable teaching level for your child.
Please refer to the Emler guide “Finding the Right Class for Your Child.” With four levels in the Aquatots toddler swim program, we ensure that your child is placed in the right level for their abilities.
For children aged three years and up, we kickstart their learning journey with a free 10-minute one-on-one Swim Skills Evaluation with a skilled instructor. The instructor will then match your child to the class that perfectly suits their abilities.
What Your Child Will Learn at Elmer Swim School
Your toddler will learn water safety techniques that will last a lifetime. The lessons utilize songs and games, making them more fun.
The Waterbabies program has six levels that help place your toddler at the right level depending on their skills.
In early stages, parents join their child in the water. But as their skills progress, your toddler will be with a teacher while you watch from outside the pool.
As your toddler improves their skills, they will first gain confidence in the water and learn to submerge comfortably for 8-10 seconds.
As their skill set improves, your child will learn to kick through the water, first for up to 3 feet and, at higher skill levels, for up to 10 feet.
At our X-treme Waterbabies level, your toddler will learn rollover breathing, an essential water safety skill where they learn to roll into a back float to take a new breath.
Throughout the toddler swimming lessons, the distance will get longer, the classes more fun, and the smiles wider!
