“We’re honored to use our facilities and network of Emler families to help Lovepacs further its mission of feeding children in need,” said Greg Laird, Emler CEO. “We hope this elevates the visibility of Lovepacs in our community and serves a need that many of our neighbors have.”
Lovepacs primarily serves children who qualify for free or reduced lunches during extended school breaks when the food they receive from the local backpack program will not be enough. The effort started in 2011 when a group of neighbors learned about and decided to address the food insecurity of children in their community while demonstrating the joy of serving one another. Lovepacs fed nearly 200 children the first year.
“Our hearts are warmed by our partnership with Emler Swim Schools,” said Lovepacs Executive Director Autumn Chavez. “We’re thrilled to give more people the opportunity to feed local kids as an expression of love.”
As of 2020, Lovepacs serves more than 7,000 children in 200-plus schools in 10 Texas school districts each holiday break. The group operates in The Colony, Frisco, Little Elm, Castle Hills, Aubrey, Denton, Lewisville, Plano and Prosper in the metroplex. Since 2011, more than 2.5 million meals have been served.
