Aquatots Houston – Clear Lake

3 years

This program takes 3-year-olds in small groups (no more than 4 per instructor) and teaches them to be submerged under water, how to control their breath, and how to kick forward through the water. Classes are engaging, using imaginative daily themes.

Toddler Swimming Classes in Houston - Clear Lake

Signing your toddler up for swim classes doesn’t just give them something fun to do. It also builds water safety skills, which is very important as drowning is the top cause of accidental death in children ages one to four.

However, you don’t want to just sign them up for any swim lessons. You want to make sure that the lessons will actually help them be the strongest swimmers they can be. Learn below how our team at Emler Swim School in Clear Lake approaches swim lessons for toddlers.

We Meet Children At Their Level

Did you ever have a time in school when you began a new grade and dove straight into materials that you were “supposed to know” but didn’t? Perhaps it was because your teacher ran out of time in the previous school year to get through all of the topics. Or maybe you’ve taken a “beginner’s class,” only to discover that the instructor’s idea of beginner was more of what you would consider intermediate.

It happens quite often, but our Clear Lake team is committed to preventing this. We don’t assume your child knows anything about swimming – no matter their age. Instead, we take the time to assess their skills and ensure they begin at the right level.

Your toddler will be placed in the age-appropriate program: the Aquatots. This program includes four different teaching levels, beginning with levels for those who cannot yet swim without flotation devices and ending with those who can kick 15 feet through the water.

Your Child Progresses On Their Own Time

Once your child has been placed at the best level for their current skills, they will work their way through at their own pace. We provide structured lessons through fun and games to help your little one develop his or her skills, but there is no pressure here.

We want children to be comfortable and confident in the water – not as though they must constantly compete and prove themselves. Instead, they work through the following levels, with positive reinforcement and parental love the whole way.

  1. Aquatots: This level is for little ones who currently need flotation devices. Through playful lessons, they learn how to hold their breath underwater for eight to ten seconds and kick for five feet.
  2. Advanced Aquatots: Next, they’ll continue with daily themes and loads of fun to kick 12 feet away. We also introduce rollover breath at this time, where your child learns to roll over to float on their back and take a breath. This is integral to water safety.
  3. Super Aquatots: The fun continues as they add another three feet of kicking to their skill set and master the rollover breath.
  4. X-treme Aquatots: By the end of this level, your toddler will be able to kick a full 20 feet through the water. We also begin front breathing, which will be mastered as they move into older age groups.

After mastering the Clear Lake Aquatots program, your child will move into new programs that will strengthen the skills they’ve already learned. They’ll also develop new skills when they’re ready, including submerging underwater, treading water, various breathing techniques, and more. And all is done through fun, games, and positive reinforcement, without fear, intimidation, or competition.
