Julie grew up in a military family and traveled a lot as a kid. Her summers were spent in Mexico City with her grandmother. Spanish was her first language, followed by English at the age of 5. Her family settled in San Antonio and Julie has been there ever since. She studied at UTSA and received her Bachelor’s in Psychology. Julie believes in continuous development and is currently working towards her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Bilingual Counseling Certificate. Julie never thought she’d end up in the swim industry- she never even knew it was as big as it is, but now she can’t see herself anywhere else! She started off in December of 2012 as a swim instructor and quickly became an Aquatic Director opening a new school in January of 2014. She is now opening the Alamo Ranch location and is excited to see where her future will lead her at Emler Swim School!
The people I get to interact with every day makes working for Emler a treat! I love my team, my families and my kiddos. I love to be able to build such genuine, fun-loving relationships with so many people that are all focused on the same goal! It truly makes coming to work a fun and exciting part of my life.
I think my ability to adapt to any situation I face makes me a great site director. I don’t always know all the answers and I am not afraid to admit that. I am always trying to learn more, do more and improve myself and my team. My passion for growth, in myself and others, keeps me and my team motivated to always be the best we can be.
When I was little, I would spend every summer in Mexico City with my grandmother where she would take me to swimming lessons at the YMCA down there. I picked up swimming fairly quickly and remember being one of the youngest in a more advanced level! I was so excited to come home and get to show my mom everything I learned from swim lessons.
My favorite memory here at Emler was our opening party at the Alamo Ranch location! It was so great hanging out with the team and getting to know all the girls! I hadn’t met them prior to that day since I had just relocated to the Alamo Ranch location, but we all just clicked and it felt like family! I’m excited to grow and share in many more experiences with my team at AR!
During elementary school, I played in so many sports. One year during softball season I was hit by the ball on my finger and my finger nail broke off. It took weeks to heal and I was terrified to play again. I sat out for so long and was so scared to start. Every time my coach or mom would try to convince me to play, I’d refuse. But I was also so sad watching all of my friends play while I sat on the side and watched. Finally, my mom decided to help me practice with tennis balls and little by little I became more and more confident. When I finally decided to play again, my mom and grandmother were close by cheering me on and I was finally able to step into the game and play! It was so much fun! I couldn’t believe that I sat out for so long out of fear!
I absolutely adore it! I am always looking forward to seeing a new smiling face.
I love being outdoors; hiking, swimming, playing with my dog, and tanning.
